Exclusions and Reintegration
Exclusions and Reintegration
The Buckinghamshire Exclusion & Reintegration Team has produced Buckinghamshire Council exclusion guidance which is written to supplement the DfE guidance on suspensions and permanent exclusions, and to provide information about local practices in Buckinghamshire, and provide a Headteacher’s checklist and sample letters. However, this should be referred to alongside the DfE September 2023 statutory guidance.

Exclusion and Reintegration Officers
The Exclusion and Reintegration Officers work closely with parents/carers, school staff, governors, health professionals, and local authority colleagues to provide advice on:
- the Department for Education's exclusion guidance to ensure that the procedures are followed correctly
- preventing suspensions and exclusions
- managed moves for pupils at risk of suspension or exclusion
- coordination of the admission of vulnerable children and young people without a school place via the Fair Access Protocol
The Exclusion and Reintegration Officers offer:
- telephone advice and email contact on all matters relating to preventing suspension and exclusions
- advice on procedures in individual cases, to schools, governors, and parents
- attendance at school meetings where preventing suspension or permanent exclusion is one of the main factors
- attendance at school Managed Move meetings for pupils at risk of suspension or exclusion
- contact with the parents/carers when a pupil has been permanently excluded from school to explain the processes of the appeal and education moving forward
- attendance at the Fair Access Board meetings which looks at vulnerable children and young people without a school place, including pupils who have been permanently excluded from school. For children and young people with an Education, Health, and Care Plan, please contact the SEN Team as there is a different legal process.
