New Headteacher Support

Buckinghamshire Council and the Buckinghamshire Academy for School Leadership (BASL) work together to provide a programme of support for those new to headship in Buckinghamshire.

The programme includes:

  • Free Early Career Headship Programme
  • Free CPD events
  • Free BASL membership
  • Free mentoring by an experienced Buckinghamshire Headteacher

Events are by invitation and you will be contacted on an individual basis.

Early Career Headship Programme

We are pleased to offer a support programme which includes CPD sessions, School Improvement guidance and a welcome to the Buckinghamshire Council support teams. These will be a mixture of online and face-to-face sessions where new headteachers will receive guidance in topics such as wellbeing, safeguarding, finance, HR, governors and admissions. The programme is available to all new headteachers for 2 years.


CPD sessions will focus on wellbeing, people-management and building relationships. School Improvement sessions will be led by the BC Advisers and guests and cover topics such as ‘The Role of the Headteacher’, ‘Leadership and Management of Safeguarding’ and ‘Preparing for Ofsted’.

Mentoring

Buckinghamshire Council funding enables BASL to offer up to 12 hours face to face mentoring to new headteachers over their first three terms in post. 

If you choose to accept this offer, you will be paired with an experienced headteacher who has completed mentor training.
