Net capacity schedules for schools

Net capacity schedules for schools

Net Capacity Schedules are a DfE methodology for measuring the capacity of your school. It is essential for the authority to maintain accurate schedules of accommodation for all schools and academies to inform decisions when planning school places and to support independent admission appeals. Each schedule contains a list of all the usable spaces in the school building (both teaching and non-teaching), which is used as a basis for assessing the capacity of each school. When divided by the number of year groups it indicates the admission number or pupils that can generally be accommodated.

The DfE are in the process of transferring all school's schedules to their new Net Capacity Assessment (NCA) process. All Secondary, Special and All-Through schools / academies have already been transferred to the new version. Primary school's details will be transferred gradually over the next few years until March 2029. The DfE agents will contact schools directly and arrange a time for their site visit.

A copy of your school's schedule is attached below for information. Where schools have already been transferred to the new NCA, a reduced version of the schedule with only the key information  is available below to assist the checking process. If you are aware of any changes that need to be made please  inform the team so we can update our records. To do so, mark any changes on an electronic copy of your schedule and return it to Amy Mitchell in the Children's and Traded Services Team at amy.mitchell@buckinghamshire.gov.uk

If no changes are needed to the schedules, please send email confirmation only.

The areas you need to check on the schedule are:

  1. School Details
  2. Room Names
  3. Room Types (i.e. general or specialist)
  4. Room Status, in particular spaces classified as classbases in primary schools or teaching spaces in secondary schools
  5. Non school or support provision (not available to the school during the school day) such as early years and childcare, specially resourced facilities (e.g. SEN departments) and parents/community rooms. Note, these rooms need to be measured but will be excluded from the capacity assessment.
