About the Buckinghamshire SEND Service

The primary role of the SEND service is to ensure that every CYP with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), whether receiving SEN Support or with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), has access to appropriate educational opportunities that meet their individual needs.

The SEND team promotes a needs-led approach. They uphold the principle that every CYP receives the support they need to succeed in education. This is regardless of their background, abilities, or whether they have a formal diagnosis.

Buckinghamshire is committed to creating inclusive educational environments for CYP with SEND. We celebrate diversity and recognise the value of individual differences through inclusive teaching approaches and supportive activities. The SEND team works in close partnership with schools and educational settings to promote inclusive approaches. This is so that every pupil feels safe, welcomed, and empowered to realise their potential.

Collaboration lies at the heart of the SEND team’s work. To thoroughly assess and understand each SEND learner's unique needs, they engage with:

  • pupils
  • parents
  • carers
  • multi-disciplinary professionals

The team plays a key role in developing and implementing Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). These clearly outline the specific support and provisions required to meet individual needs.

The SEND Service provides essential advice and guidance to educational staff on:

  • specialist interventions
  • curriculum and environment adjustments
  • support strategies for CYP with SEND.

They also offer training and professional development for educators. This equips them with the knowledge and skills required to support SEND students.

The SEND team plays a crucial role in coordinating and facilitating the transition for CYP with SEND as they move between educational stages or transition into adulthood. They ensure continuity of support and services during these transitions. They work closely with other agencies and service providers, such as health and social care professionals.
