Supporting Children and Young People who are young carers
Supporting Children and Young People who are young carers
This session will explore the important role that young carers play in their families /communities, and the role schools / staff have to make a real difference in their lives.
We will begin by looking at what a young carer is, highlighting the responsibilities they may take on and the challenges they face in balancing home life with education. This session will also introduce the Carers Bucks offer, outlining the services available to young carers and how these can complement the support schools provide and how to make a referral into our services.
Outcomes:
- Consider how to identify young carers, including key signs to look out for.
- Understand the importance of creating a supportive environment for young carers.
- Explore examples of good practice from other schools, showcasing successful approaches that have helped young carers to feel understood, included, and better.
- Have a clearer understanding of young carers’ needs, the tools to recognise and support them, and the knowledge of how we can work together to make a meaningful difference.
