Appendix 14: Example Method Statement

Walton Street Offices, Aylesbury. Call No. 91312

Method Statement for removing existing equipment within equipment room and disposal off-site.

Before any work is started, any small areas of asbestos within the equipment room will be removed by Buckinghamshire Council’s approved contractor.

Then the equipment will be cut up into pieces that can be carried by hand into the lift and out of the building.

The following route will be taken to transport the equipment from equipment room to outside the building:

  • Up lift motor room access ladder.
  • Through entrance door to lift motor room. Note: the Facilities Manager of the Walton Street Offices will have to be contacted on telephone no. 01296 382310 as they have the keys to this door and all other doors.
  • Equipment can then be lowered through the large hatch in the lift motor room and then transferred straight into the lift.

Note:

  • The equipment can be lowered using suitable rope put over the existing lifting beam above the hatch. This beam has a maximum capacity of 1600kg.  Care must be taken not to overload this beam.
  • Also, while the equipment is being lowered, signs should be put up to warn people of the work and a member of the workforce should be standing at the lift entrance level to stop people going into the work area.
  • The times of use of the lift should be agreed with the Facilities Manager of the Walton Street Offices before work starts.
  • From the lift at ground level turn right through the doors, down the steps; veer right around the portacabin out into the access road.

If required, before work starts suitable fire protection should be in place in the equipment room.

Note: Any noisy work will be carried out at the weekends to prevent disturbance to building occupants.
