Appendix 7: Checklist for Managers of Premises where construction work is to take place

Although not comprehensive, managers of premises should use the following list to indicate which of the items may need to be considered.

Questions:

  1. Do you know the nature, scope, start date and duration of the works:

  2. Do you know the name of the contractor and any sub-contractors carrying out the work:

  3. Is there a standard specification or Code of Practice relating to the necessary health and safety requirements:

  4. Can the work be completely segregated from employees, visitors, clients:

  5. Do you need to take any complementary precautions, eg warning staff, changing work patterns:

  6. Is any relevant health and safety information required by the contractors eg emergency procedures:

  7. What are the arrangements for storage and transport of materials and waste and for access to services:

  8. Do you know the name and telephone number of the supervising officer for the contract:

  9. Have you consulted with the site safety representative(s):

  10. Will the contractor’s work create any potential risks for staff, clients, etc:

  11. Will the contractor’s work compromise security of the site, eg scaffolding may give easier access to parts of the building, fire alarms may be disconnected whilst work takes place, etc:
