Supported Internship

For many learners with an EHCP, a Supported Internship is likely to be the best way to find a route into employment. 

What is a supported internship

  • Work-based learning placements within mainstream employment settings.
  • The aim is to secure a job at the end of the placement. The last year of the CYP’s EHCP.
  • Placements should last over six months and would usually be at least 20 hours per week.
  • Bespoke for each intern.
  • Opportunity to study Maths and English at Entry 3 to Level 2.
  • Bitesize training in life skills such as digital skills, self-management, and communication skills.
  • Job roles may include:
    • office admin
    • portering
    • catering
    • housekeeping
    • reception
    • IT
    • early-years
    • animal care

Eligibility criteria

  • Aged 17 to 24 with a learning disability or autism.
  • Have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).
  • Working at Entry Level 2/3. Level 1 Functional Skills.
  • Independent traveller or working towards this.
