Responding to critical incidents: how can Educational Psychologists help

Consultation with an Educational Psychologist can happen before, during or after an incident. The Educational Psychologists’ primary role is to support and advise staff who know the students best. You could consider contacting your link EP when leaders feel overwhelmed, when vulnerability mapping is needed, where multi agency coordination is complex, or when planning reintegration and anniversaries.

Before

Jointly review the CIMP; facilitate training; plan student‑support systems and referral pathways.

During

Advise on Day‑one scripts and structure; help identify vulnerable students; support staff containment plans.

After

Consult on referrals; support reintegration planning; advise on memorials and anniversaries; review and strengthen systems.
