Costs for a new apprentice

Last updated:

In the first year of an apprenticeship, you must pay at least the Government Apprentice Minimum Wage. See National Minimum Wage for current rate.

From 12 months onwards, you must pay at least the age-related Minimum Wage rate, so the salary will increase if the apprentice is aged 19 or over.

In addition to the normal charge for any vacancy advertising you require, you’ll be charged an Apprentice recruitment fee of £500 for each apprentice vacancy, which includes Levy administration, contract and training advice and candidate support.

Training fees are fully funded by the Buckinghamshire Council apprenticeship levy.

Financial Incentives

  • If your apprentice is aged between 16 and 18, you will receive a Government Incentive payment of £1,000 over the term of the apprenticeship.
  • You will not have to pay National Insurance contributions if your apprentice is aged under the age of 25.
