Boiler Care Procedures for Schools to Follow Prior to Holiday Periods
- Ensure that all the boiler plant controls are left switched on for the duration of the holiday.
- Select the ‘Holiday’ or ‘Frost’ setting on the boiler controls for the beginning of the holiday.
- If the boiler plant is oil-fired or Calor Gas ensure sufficient supplies are in place prior to holiday.
- Carry out a visual check to ensure that all insulation to pipework and tanks is in place.
- Report any defects to the Property Help Desk well in advance of the holiday.
- Turn off all cold water supplies to outside taps and drain down if possible.
- Ensure that all valves within the heating system are left open.
- Ensure that the mains electrical supply to, and within, the boiler room are left switched on.
- Ensure that the fuel supply is left on.
- Ensure that there are no windows, doors or vents left open near pipework.
- Ensure that the boiler and all pumps are not turned off individually.
