Below is a series of short pre-recorded training sessions introducing the nature and causes of EBSNA. The sessions complement the toolkit and could be used as part of group training, individual induction or CPD.
Session 1
What do we mean by EBSNA
Session one is a general introduction to EBSNA. It covers:
- What professionals mean when they use this term
- Who might be considered as presenting with EBSNA
- how Special Educational Needs and Disabilities might lead to EBSNA (using the four functions model)
It is suitable for parents/carers and anyone working with children and young people. It could also be used as part of a training session within an organisation.
Session 2
What schools can do to support the SEND that have led to EBSNA
Session two described the four functions of EBSNA and how they are linked to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. It also talks through:
- the assess, plan, do, review process in the context of EBSNA.
- how schools might use the Buckinghamshire EBSNA toolkit to support children, young people and families.
This session is aimed at school professionals. It may be of interest to parents/carers who want to understand the approach that schools are recommended to take in supporting their child.
Session 3
How anxiety can play a part in EBSNA
Session three describes how anxiety can play a role in school non-attendance. It describes the psychology behind anxiety cycles. It is suitable for parents/carers and anyone working with children and young people. It could also be used as part of a training session within an organisation.
Session 4
Reducing anxiety and rebuilding trust through 'small step returns'
Session four describes how schools should approach reintegration planning following a period of non-attendance. This session is aimed at school professionals. It may be of interest to parents/carers who want to understand the approach that schools are recommended to take in supporting their child.
Session 5
Complex SEND, burnout and traumatic school experiences
Session five describes the impact of burnout and traumatic experiences on school attendance. It is suitable for parents/carers and anyone working with children and young people. It could also be used as part of a training session within an organisation.
