Specialist Teachers
Buckinghamshire Council employs a team of Specialist Teachers as part of its Integrated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (iSEND) Team. The Specialist Teachers are a team of qualified teachers. They have experience and qualifications for supporting children and young people with needs. This includes:
- Autism
- Cognition and Learning
- Developmental Language Disorder / Language Impairment
- Down syndrome
- Hearing Loss
- Multi-Sensory Impairment
- Physical Disabilities
- Vision Impairment
The Specialist Teachers work both countywide across Buckinghamshire and within three locality-based hubs;
- Aylesbury
- Chiltern and South Buckinghamshire (CSB)
- Wycombe
The main role of the Specialist Teachers is to promote the successful inclusion and progress of Children and Young People (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). They support the facilitation of effective SEND provision. They ensure that CYP are enabled to reach their full potential and secure positive outcomes.
Specialist Teachers work in partnership with:
- SENDCOs
- class teachers
- teaching assistants
- key workers
- children and young people and their families
- other agencies
This is to support the child and young person in their academic and personal development.
