Introduction

The upkeep of your school’s buildings is essential if they are to remain fit for purpose and to retain their asset value for the Council. The Property Services team in the Property & Assets Directorate, in association with the Council’s preferred maintenance contractors, have the combined skills necessary to help you remedy any building defect and are readily available to deal with schemes ranging from day-to-day repairs, improvements and alterations through to new build.

To assist you in identifying possible problems there follows a list of common defects found in school buildings together with their possible causes. It is not an exhaustive list and if you are in doubt about any particular problem then you should contact the Property Help Desk.
